GREEN AWARENESS 2011
Our Model
Our vertically integrated business model allows us more flexibility, helps reduce our carbon footprint and allows for faster turnaround times than most in the market. From printing, fulfillment, die cutting, and sewing, to advertising and design, we do everything in-house, without the need for outsourcing.
One Source
We have 215,000 square feet of manufacturing, fulfillment and storage space in La Mirada, CA. With every step of the production process under our roof, we reduce transportation requirements and the associated pollution.
Warehouse Distribution
Coyle maintains a warehouse and distribution center on site. For some clients, we maintain inventory and ship out orders from our facility, daily, as they are placed. Over the years we have developed strategies with our LTL freight carriers as well as UPS & FedEx which help to reduce the size and weight of our clients shipped products, resulting in savings of money, packaging resources and transportation resources; ultimately reducing the carbon footprint even further.
Recycling
In our recycling efforts, we strive to be as efficient as possible. That efficiency begins by creating as little waste as we can. Scrap materials are collected from each department and recycled daily. We recycle everything from office paper, plastic, wooden pallets, metal, film, cardboard and electronic waste, reducing our impact on landfills and minimizing our ecological foot print. Our recycling policies have been implemented for over 20 years, and have resulted in hundreds of thousands of pounds of waste diverted from landfills.
Innovative and Creative Reuse
We love putting creative ideas into practice that reduce our ecological footprint. We donate scrap from wooden crates to Habitat for Humanity. At our facility, we take notes on spiral pads made from old advertising materials, as well as the clean paper waste from offices and our Graphics Department. Our cardboard boxes and other materials used for packaging our incoming supplies, are collected and reused as many times as possible before being recycled and processed, saving energy and chemical inputs.
Energy and Water Efficiency
5 Years ago we executed a full retrofit of high efficiency light fixtures in our factory. Additionally, we recently implemented daylight-harvesting technology, a move that saves hundreds of hours of energy each year. We have also found energy savings with the improved efficiency of our industrial air compressors. Our bathroom fixtures have been upgraded, and a water recycling power washer was installed in our screen department saving thousands of gallons of water a year. With UV inks, we are always below the compliance levels AQMD has set for air quality requirements. Working closely with the power company, we have installed timers throughout the building that shut off designated power grids during peak hours.
Sourcing
We are always looking for more ecologically sound materials, processes and services. Internally, our catalogs and marketing materials are printed on recyclable materials. Looking outward, we work closely with our vendors to offer our clients a full array of print and display materials that have recycled, recyclable and biodegradable properties to them, helping our clients to reduce their ecological footprint, as we have with our own. We have certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council & the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, which our retail clients can print our license code on there printed material to promote their green policies to the public.
